The NMC Test of Competence utilizes a two-tier evaluation model to ensure all international applicants possess both the theoretical clinical knowledge and hand-on motor skills expected of an NHS nurse. Let's compare both stages.

1. CBT: The Theoretical Safeguard

Taken digitally in your home country, the CBT tests clinical knowledge, calculations, ethics, and guidelines. It is a highly objective, multiple-choice test designed to evaluate cognitive decision-making and safety-critical protocols.

2. OSCE: The Practical Examination

Taken in person at an accredited UK university testing center, the OSCE consists of 10 distinct timed clinical bays. You will interact with actor patients and high-fidelity manikins to perform tasks like wound care, aseptic technique, basic life support, and SBAR communication under direct examiner observation.
