Failing the NMC CBT is a stressful setback, but it is not the end of your UK nursing journey. The NMC has clear guidelines governing retakes. Knowing the rules, costs, and wait times will help you bounce back efficiently.
1. The 10-Day Wait Period
If you fail either Part A (Numeracy) or Part B (Clinical), you must wait a minimum of **10 working days** before you can resit the exam. This time is intended for targeted review and mock practice.
2. The Three-Attempt Rule
Under your initial application fee, you are allowed a total of **three attempts** to pass the CBT. If you do not pass on your third attempt, your application is closed, and you must wait 12 months before restarting the entire NMC registration process from the beginning.
3. Resit Costs and Booking
If you only failed one part, you do not need to retake the entire exam. You can book and pay a reduced fee to resit only the failed section (Part A or Part B) at the Pearson VUE center.
