Passing the Mental Health CBT: 3 Top Strategies

Published: June 12, 2024 | By: cbtprep.co.uk

The RNMH (Mental Health Nursing) exam has specific requirements that international nurses must be familiar with. These strategies will ensure you pass your mental health CBT on your first attempt.

1. Master the Mental Health Act 1983

You must understand the legal frameworks governing compulsory admission and treatment in the UK. Pay close attention to Sections 2, 3, 4, and 5(2) of the Mental Health Act, as questions will directly test your knowledge of their application and duration.

2. Focus on De-escalation

When presented with a scenario involving an agitated or aggressive patient, the correct answer will always prioritize the least restrictive option. De-escalation techniques, such as verbal communication and reducing environmental stimuli, must be used before considering medication or restraint.

3. Therapeutic Communication

The exam tests your ability to form therapeutic relationships. In your answers, always choose responses that demonstrate active listening, empathy, and respect for the patient's autonomy and dignity.
